Call for Good Times! Camp Goodtimes, June 26
Camp Goodtimes was established in 1984 to provide a no-cost camp environment for children affected by cancer, where they can recapture the joys of childhood. The Bellevue Rotary Club hosts an annual carnival, where campers (and volunteers) spend an afternoon with bubbles, bouncy houses, paint, and all around fun. Ask any Rotarian who has previously been to Camp Goodtimes, and they will tell you it is one of the most worthwhile days you can spend volunteering!
This year, the carnival will be held June 26, on Vashon Island (Camp Burton), from 10am-5pm. Plan on riding the 10:20am ferry to Vashon from the Fauntleroy dock in West Seattle. Meet other Rotarians by 10:00am in the upper parking lot in the North end of Lincoln Park. If you want to, you can leave your car in that lot to join an ad hoc car pool to the ferry, which is a 5-minute drive south. Camp is 20 minutes down-island from the ferry dock.
Disembark from the ferry and go straight ahead to Camp Burton, on the South end of Vashon. Turn left at the Burton Country store and follow signs to the Camp Burton office. Park near there and unload your gear after lunch. We meet in the Fellowship Hall for name tags and the Camp Goodtimes spirit talk.
We need three adults for every inflatable game, plus more to operate a prize house, cotton candy and sno cone machines, and a Rotaract booth. We still need about 40 people to make this happen. Invite friends, family, co-workers to volunteer — anyone old enough to help out at a table, booth, or game!
We also need more “backyard-type” games, crafts, jewelry making, face painting, bean bag toss — anything fun you can organize and bring. The Camp may have some craft supplies, or we can order online and take the items to camp. Just let us know what you need!
You may also want to bring a change of clothes and a plastic bag for your camera, as you may get very dirty! After leaving camp at about 5:00PM, we will meet at the Rock Island Pizza for some end-of-the-day fellowship.
