Shiv Batra, “Brief Historical Perspective & Features of the Panama Canal & Ballard Locks”
Shiv Batra has been a Bellevue Rotarian since 2000 and a resident of Washington State since 1979. Prior to coming to Washington, he and his wife attended the University of Nebraska. They have 2 children and 4 grandchildren, and they all live in the Seattle area.
In 1983 Shiv co‑founded an Engineering Company called INCA Engineers. Since the 1990’s, the Company has been heavily engaged in the planning and design of several locks and dams on the Columbia, Ohio, and Mississippi River systems, and also on the Panama Canal.
In 2008, the Company became a wholly‑owned subsidiary of Tetra Tech, a California‑based publicly traded company. Tetra Tech is a design partner of the joint venture design/build team for the Third Sets of Locks. Shiv serves on the Board of Management of the Design Joint Venture Team, which makes him very qualified to speak on this subject.
About 2 years ago, Shiv was appointed by Governor Jay Inslee as one of the new Transportation Commissioners for the Washington State Transportation Commission.
