John D. Deehr, CAPT USN(RET), Senior Naval Science Instructor, Liberty High School Naval Junior ROTC, “Developing Tomorrow’s Leaders Today”
Captain John Deehr is a native of Warren, Ohio and received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kent State University, Kent, Ohio, in 1982. He joined the Navy in 1985 and received his commission through Naval Officer Candidate School, Newport, Rhode Island in February 1986.
During his thirty years of active duty service, Captain Deehr served on board six different surface ships, in various positions, including executive as officer of USS Ogden (LPD 5) and USS Peleliu (LHA 5) and commanding officer of USS Germantown (LSD 42) and USS Peleliu (LHA 5). On shore, Captain Deehr served in various staff positions, including Assistant Chief of Staff for Manpower and Personnel at U.S. Naval Surface Forces, Deputy Director of Operations and Plans at U.S. Central Command, and as the Professor of Naval Science and Commanding Officer of the University of Washington Naval ROTC Unit. Additionally, he holds a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College. In July 2016 Captain Deehr became the Senior Naval Science Instructor for the Liberty High School NJROTC Unit, and in 2018 he was awarded one of only two Liberty High School PTSA Outstanding Educator Awards.
Captain Deehr is married, with two children, Eli, 13, and Reagan, 11, and will celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary this coming October.
