International Day of Peace Celebration, September 21
Peace does not happen. It needs to be created. Worldwide, Rotary International has adopted a new focus equal to that of Polio Eradication. PEACEBUILDING.
The Rotary Clubs of Bellevue and Bellevue Sunrise are celebrating the United Nations International Day of Peace, September 21, a day celebrated throughout the world, with a large-scale event from 6:30‑8:30PM, at Bellevue Downtown Park and Inspiration Playground, 10201 NE 4th St, Bellevue.
We will begin the event by planting an official Rotary Peace Pole with “May Peace Prevail on Earth,” in four languages. We will also be honoring Bellevue Rotarian Rob Rose, founder and creator of Inspiration Playground, a multimillion dollar project for a universally-accessible play experience.
A video of peace-themed popular music will be projected on an inflatable big screen for a singalong and line dancing. An art corner will provide an opportunity to design peace-message graphics that could be painted on buildings later. Peace messages will be tacked on a Peace Wall, and inspirational speakers will lead into the final candlelight ending. DON’T FORGET YOUR CANDLE AND LIGHTER.
Posters announcing the event are being disseminated to Bellevue schools, businesses, public areas, and social media. Our sponsors are very much appreciated: Expedia; ARVR Academy; FYF Productions; Live Oak Audio Visual; Bellevue YMCA; and Kidsquest.
We encourage attendees to use mass transit, carpooling, or park at Bellevue High School to be shuttled to the park. For more information contact firstname.lastname@example.org/505.610.0707.
